NEW YORK CITY
CLOTHING BANK TOYS WITH THE HOLIDAYS
NEW YORK, December 10, 2007 –
Santa Claus came early this year for the hundreds of community
organizations that rely on donations of new clothing and toys from New
York City Clothing Bank. With support from Kids in Distressed
Situations, Inc., (K.I.D.S), World Vision, Toys for Tots, and other
longtime supporters, New York City Clothing Bank was able to distribute
10,000 toys during the last few months to help its youngest clientele
enjoy the holidays.
Volunteers delivered tons of
holiday cheer, along with new toys such as fireman teddy bears and Hess
trucks. This initiative was part of an ongoing effort by New York City
Clothing Bank to assist those most in need in the five boroughs of New
York City. Created in 1986 as a mayoral initiative under Mayor Ed Koch
and now managed by Peter Young Housing, Industries & Treatment,
New York City Clothing Bank is the only program in New York City to
distribute new clothing and merchandise to those in need.
In addition to annually
distributing up to $10 million worth of new apparel, toys and other
goods, New York City Clothing Bank is active in New York’s emergency
response initiatives and will be launching its own warehouse training
program in late 2008.
