Created in 1986 as a
mayoral initiative under former Mayor Ed Koch and now managed by Peter
Young Housing, Industries & Treatment, New York City Clothing
Bank is the only program in New York City to distribute new apparel,
toys and other goods to help New Yorkers in need.
Although the New York City Clothing Bank is assisted by dedicated
volunteers, key financial contributors and more than 300 apparel
manufacturers and other organizations the need for donations has never been greater than now. New York City Clothing Bank's community
resource center has an annual demand for up to $10 million worth
of clothing and other goods to non-profit and government agencies serving
approximately 80,000 adults and children throughout the five boroughs.
